Atomix Productions has also created the world’s first social network exclusively for DJ’s. This network gives DJ’s real time access to data, information, and suggestions, not only via the web, but also from directly within the program during live performances. The system can even make recommendations on what to play next, based on what millions of others DJ’s think, or, based on the data from the specific groups the user is subscribed too. Pioneer’s new Rekord Box software

Rekord Box is Pioneer’s digital answer to the vinyl cases that DJs used to lug around. In the fabulous old days of records, there would be a certain amount of prep that needed to be done in order for the DJ to rock up and blow away the crowd with their box of delights. Now, Mr DJ wouldn’t turn up at the club with his/her entire record collection because that would just be silly, and how many little helpers would be needed to cart all that around?

Instead, DJs would go through their collection picking out the tunes that would be appropriate for the night and arrange them either into set order, or mark up specific notes about the tracks, like ‘great vox’ or ‘big breakdown’, right down to BPM and key. With all this info and correct tunes chosen, they’d pack them into two or three ubiquitous record boxes, turn up to the gig and rock the discothèque. Pioneer have adopted this ideology — why would a digital DJ turn up to a gig with his entire hard drive of tunes, (potentially thousands of tracks) and then just hope that everything is sorted out, ready to play? In steps Rekord Box, a music management software application for preparation of a DJ’s digital music library.

A USB port located on top of the turntable enables users to quickly connect an external storage device such as a Tonium Pacemaker™ or a hard drive packed with music files, minimizing the need to bring a laptop computer to performances.

The CDJ-2000 turntable includes rekordbox™, Pioneer's proprietary music management software that organizes and catalogs a DJ's entire music library. When music files are imported to rekordbox, the software analyzes each file and prepares them for use specifically with the new CDJ turntable. Key elements of Pioneer’s rekordbox software:

Texas company Livid have been making beautifully crafted hardware such as Ohm 64, as well as various software products, since 2000 now. Their latest product is The Block — a multi-purpose controller for the digital DJ or VJ.

When we opened the box our first impression was that The Block looked pretty stylish and minimalist. The silver front plate, blue LED pads and wood casing go together very nicely.
